MITCHEL MONTAGNA
Your Blues
In the dirt, you’re no one’s fool
Your blood marks every page
You fled your rubbled dream of school
and found a bigger cage
Late one night, your brain scraped loud
Your forehead bashed a door
Black lights wrapped you in a shroud
You kissed the bathroom floor
You slept through films, forgot your books
You asked her to the show
She said, due to your sketchy looks
I’m here to tell you no
That welfare line was deathly long
You’d blown your credit twice
You heard a moody gospel song
that chilled your nerves like ice
Anguish beats inside the blues
Blood leaks out at the break
You grab your spinning splattered shoes
and plunge into their wake
